KGIS has added its newly acquired, 1-ft.-resolution aerial ortho-photography to KNOXnetWhere?.  The 1ft resolution image is derived from 6" resolution data. The photography was flown back in March 2008 as part of KGIS's landbase update project with Sanborn & Co. KGIS is scheduled to receive updates to its other landbase data (incl. building footprints, edges of pavement, hydrography, topography, etc.) in 2009.

KUB's GIS Replacement Project Begins

On February 23, 2009, KUB officially kicked off its GIS Replacement Project, having contracted with Telvent Miner & Miner (TM&M). This three year project will include a new ESRI architecture, the migration of all GIS utility data and graphics, new interfaces to KUB's Customer Information and Outage Management systems, and utility tools for maintaining and viewing the migrated data.

The new GIS is replacing two important applications that have been used by KUB for over a decade:

  • The Intergraph FRAMME system has been the foundation of KUB’s current GIS since the early 90s.  It is used by Engineering New Services (ENS) - Mapping to maintain all KUB GIS data.
  • KGIS’s custom LandViewer was also KUB’s first GIS-viewing application and has evolved a great deal since its first installation in 1996.  It is currently used by over 400 people at KUB.

KUB's Project Manager is Kevin Cunningham. Conn McAnally will represent the KGIS Office on the project team.
